A Celebration of James Brown: On October 13 at 2 p.m. at the Jefferson branch library, there will be a multimedia presentation on the "Godfather of Soul." The event will be led by R. J. Smith, author of a biography on Brown called "The One," and will be accompanied by a pre-show of rare James Brown recordings.
Sounds of Friendship at Wilshire Ebell Theatre On October 9 at 7:30 p.m., the Korean Cultural Center LA along with the Korean Culture and Information Service, is putting on a free performance of Korean song and dance at the Ebell theater. The evening will include including the world music group, GongMyoung, a popular B-boy group called Gorilla Crew and multiple Korean dancers.
Kathy Rose at USC This free show takes place in the campus' Grand Ballroom on October 11 and features performance artist Kathy Rose, integrating live dance with sound, animation and film. According to the event's website, she's influenced by Japanese aesthetics, and her costumes, film projections and performances are described as "abstract, textural and luminous."
