In "Last Week in Newton," OnCentral recaps some of the week's occurrences in Newton Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.

For the week beginning with July 1 and ending on July 7, incidents within the division included:
July 7, 2012 at approximately 3:30 a.m.: Intersection of Maple Avenue and 23rd Street: Two men were angry with an acquaintance. The suspects threatened to beat and kill the victim and forced him to withdraw money from an ATM. They also stole the victim’s phone. The suspects were later caught and arrested.
July 3, 2012 at approximately 4:00 p.m.: 1400 block of East Vernon Avenue: A man between 20 and 25 years old with a teardrop tattoo on his cheek asked for candy at a mini-mart. As the customer went to get the candy, the suspect pulled out a revolver and demanded money from the register. The suspect has not been caught at this time.
July 4, 2012 between 3:50 and 4:45 a.m.: 4400 block of Avalon Boulevard.: A 40-year-old male unlawfully entered a market by creating a hole in its roof. Once inside the market, the suspect stole goods and left in an unknown direction. No arrests have been made.
July 5 - July 6, 2012 between 6:00 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.: 4900 block of Wadsworth Avenue: An unknown suspect used a cement block to break into a 2008 Honda Element. The suspect broke the car’s window and proceeded to look for property in the glove compartment and the center console. Nothing was taken, however, and the suspect left the scene. No arrests have been made.
July 4, 2012 at approximately 8:45 p.m.: Intersection of 48th Place and Hooper Avenue: A man in his early 50s with tattoos on his left arm shot a woman victim in the foot. The suspect and victim allegedly knew each other. The suspect was arrested.
July 1, 2012 between 12:01 and 1:00 a.m.: 3700 block of Wall Street: A woman heard gunshots outside her home. Upon further investigation, she realized that the shots were fired into the front of her home. The victim was with her family at the time. There is no information about the suspect at this time and no arrests have been made.
July 7, 2012 at approximately 10:50 p.m.: 4100 block of Zamora Street: A man got in a disagreement with a neighbor. The suspect, who was intoxicated at the time, used a machete and hit the victim in the back and fled the scene on foot. The suspect was later arrested.
July 3, 2012 at approximately 5:00 p.m.: 5700 block of South Broadway: A pair of suspects, one male and one female, were involved in a robbery at a clothing store. The female suspect asked someone at the store a question, and proceeded to take clothes while she was gone. The suspect then ran out to a car that was driven by the male suspect. No arrests have been made.
