Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who killed a 6-year-old girl in South Los Angeles after she crossed the street.
The incident occurred Tuesday night at about 9:20 p.m. near 49th Place and Hoover Avenue. LAPD South Traffic Division officers responsded to a call of the collision and upon arriving at the scene, they saw a young girl on the ground, unresponsive and suffering from severe injuries. The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where she died, according to police reports.
KTLA reported that the girl to be Kemberly Arrue. A member of the family told KTLA that Arrue’s body was thrown about 80 feet down the road. Her father picked her up and carried her back to the ground lawn while the girl’s mother called 911.
The only other information police have at the moment is that the South LA girl was struck by a black, older model SUV with dark windows. The driver left the scene, without rendering aid. Police detectives say that the car may have damage to the right front headlight.
