South Los Angeles residents looking to get to Downtown Los Angeles for
A collaboration between several community organizations such as TRUST South LA, Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE), and Mercado La Paloma, the feeder ride prior to the main CicLAvia will be meeting in front of the Swim Stadium at Exposition Park at 8:30 a.m. A small rally will be held prior to departing for the main event.
“We will be taking the route that we are thinking about using for the expansion of CicLAvia to South LA,” said Tafarai Bayne, Community Affairs Manager for Trust South LA. “Cyclists will be exploring the route.”
Sunday's CicLAvia ride is the second of its kind in Los Angeles and is a seven-and-a-half mile free open streets family festival for walking, bicycling, skating the streets of Los Angeles car free. An alternative meeting point at Mercado La Paloma has also been set up where people can grab a breakfast and meet up with the other South LA cyclists later in route.
Organizers of the feeder ride have organized the group bike ride in hopes of showing support for expanding CicLAvia to South Los Angeles. Finalizing a route and other details for the expansion (which if all goes well would be for the October CicLAvia) are still being worked out through regular community meetings.
“It’s a pretty good turn out,” Bayne said in regards to community involvement in meetings.
The group will amp up community outreach in May said Bayne, by bike giveaways, community meetings and more
